How to share a Paper doc

There are two ways to share Dropbox Paper docs with other people:

  • By using the Invite button at the top of the doc
  • By sending a link to the doc

How to share with the Invite button

  1. Open the Paper doc you want to share.
  2. Click the blue Invite button at the top of the doc.
  3. Type the email address of the person or people you want to share with and include a message if you'd like.
  4. Click Can edit to choose the permissions access you'd like invitees to have:
    • Can comment allows others to leave comments on your content
    • Can edit allows others to directly add to, edit, or delete your content, and to invite others to the doc
  5. Click Send

Note: If the recipient doesn't have a Dropbox Paper account, they will be prompted to create one before viewing your document.

How to share by sending a link

By default, whoever has the link you share will be able to edit your file. Learn how to change that setting.

  1. Open the Paper doc you want to share.
  2. Click the Copy link button (chain icon) at the top of the doc.
  3. Paste the link into an email, chat message, or text.

Who can see my docs?

If you create a private doc that’s not inside of a folder (unfiled), you’re the only person that will be able to search for and edit it—until you decide to share it. If you create a doc within a folder, all members of that folder can open, search for, and edit your doc.

Shared links
Basic, Plus, and Professional: Anyone with the link to your doc will be able to edit it.

Dropbox Business
By default, any team member with a link to another team member's doc can edit it.
Note: This default setting applies to teams created after February 9, 2019. Teams created before that date have a default setting that gives editing permissions to anyone with the link, whether they're on their team or not.
