How to remove a link to a file or folder

Removing a link immediately disables that link to your file or folder. Anyone who tries to click a disabled link will get an error message. If you want to share a link to your file or folder again, you can create a new link at any time.

On dropbox.com

There are two ways to remove a link to a file or folder on dropbox.com.

From the Files page:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com. 
  2. Click All files in the left sidebar.
  3. Hover over the name of the file or folder and click the share icon (person).
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Click either Link for editing or Link for viewing depending on which link you’d like to remove.
  6. Click Delete link.

From the Sharing page:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Shared in the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Links tab.
  4. Click "" (ellipsis) next to the file or folder that you want to remove the link from, and select Delete link.

On your computer

To remove a link to a file or folder on your computer:

  1. Open the Dropbox folder on your computer
  2. Right-click the file or folder that you want to remove the link from.
  3. Click Share.
  4. Click Link settings.
  5. Click Delete link.

On your phone or tablet

To remove a link to a file or folder on the Dropbox mobile app:

  1. Open the Dropbox mobile app.
  2. Tap the “⁝” (vertical ellipsis on Android) “” (ellipsis on iPhone/iPad) next to the file or folder you’d like to remove the link from.
  3. Tap Share.
  4. Tap File settings or Folder settings.
  5. Tap Control access under Link settings.
  6. Tap Delete link.
