How to translate files in Dropbox

This article describes a feature powered by Dropbox-built AI that helps you translate content in your Dropbox account.

How to use the Dropbox translation tool

Note: The default target language will be what you have set in your preferences. Learn more about setting your preferred language.

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Navigate to the file you want to translate.
    • This will open the file in preview.
  3. Click and drag over the text you wish to translate.
  4. Click “globe” (globe icon).
  5. Choose the language you wish to translate the passage to.
    • Note: You can translate a selection of text.
  6. Click Ask AI.
  7. Click X to exit the AI panel.

What types of files work with the translation tool?

To use the translation tool, the file must be in one of the following formats:

  • .pdf
  • .docx
  • .pptx

This feature is not available in PDF edit, however, you can still translate PDFs in preview. Learn more about previewing files in Dropbox.

What languages does the translation tool work with?

You can translate text in preview from your preferred language into any of the following languages:

Arabic English Japanese Slovak
Bulgarian Finnish Korean Spanish
Catalan French Malay Swedish
Chinese Galician Norwegian Tagalog
Croatian German Polish Thai
Czech Greek Portuguese Turkish
