The email address linked to your Dropbox account is what you’ll use to log in to Dropbox and receive important Dropbox notifications. If you can no longer access that inbox, you can always log in to Dropbox without access to your email address.

This article explains how to edit the email address on your or a team member’s Dropbox account, update your billing address, and how to use a recovery email. If you don’t know what your Dropbox email address is, learn how to find the email address on your Dropbox account.

How to change your Dropbox email

To change the email address on your Dropbox account:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Under the General tab, find your email address.
  5. Click Edit next to your email address.
    • If you see Verify email instead of Edit, you’ll need to verify your email address before you can change it.
    • If you see an info icon (i inside a circle) instead of Edit, you’ll need to contact your admin to change your email address.
  6. Enter your new email, confirm email, and Dropbox password.
  7. Click Update email.
    • We’ll send a verification email to your new email address.
  8. Open the email and click Verify your email.

Important: Changing your email address linked to your account does not automatically update your recovery email. After updating your email address, review your recovery email to make sure it’s correct and accessible.

Use a recovery email

You can add a recovery email to help keep your account secure. A recovery email is a backup email address used to help you access and secure your account. For example, you may use it to:

  • Reset your password
  • Receive one-time passcodes (OTPs) when logging in from an unrecognized device

If you lose access to the email address linked to your Dropbox account, a verified recovery email can help you log in again. Your recovery email is separate from the email address linked to your Dropbox account.

Admins: How to change a team member's email address

If you’re an admin, you can change the email address on a team member’s Dropbox account. To do so:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Members.
  4. Click the name of the team member.
  5. Next to their current email address, click Change and enter the new email address.

We’ll send an email to their original email address letting them know that an admin on their team changed their Dropbox email address.

How to change the billing email address on your Dropbox account

Changing the email address associated with your Dropbox account won't change the billing email address. If you pay for a Dropbox subscription and need to change the billing email address, you will need to update your billing information.
