Dropbox Capture FAQs
Do I need a Dropbox account to use Dropbox Capture?
Yes. You’ll need to be logged into your Dropbox account to use Dropbox Capture, either on dropbox.com or the Dropbox desktop app.
Recordings made with Dropbox Capture will be saved to your Dropbox account in the “Capture” folder. This folder can be accessed through dropbox.com, the Dropbox desktop app, or by clicking the folder icon in the top-right corner of the Dropbox Capture app.
My recording has no audio. What should I do?
If you’re having issues recording audio, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Click “⁝” (vertical ellipsis) in the top right corner of the app, select Preferences, and make sure the correct recording device is selected under Microphone.
- Quit Dropbox Capture and reopen it.
- Make sure Capture is up to date.
- Make sure your microphone is not muted while recording.
- The audio level over the microphone icon should be moving as you speak.
If you’re still unable to resolve the issue, contact customer support.
How do I change video resolution?
To change the recording resolution, click “⁝” (vertical ellipsis) in the top right corner of the app, select Preferences, and make a selection using the dropdown next to Video quality.
Note: Customers on Dropbox Professional, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise can capture recordings in 4K, but will need a 4k monitor to view them at full resolution.
How much recording time do I have?
Customers on Dropbox Basic, Plus, and Family plans can record up to two hours total with no limit on individual recordings. Additional time can be added by referring Dropbox Capture.
Customers on Dropbox Professional, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise have unlimited recording time up to their storage limit.
What happens when I reach my recording limit?
Once customers on Dropbox Basic, Plus, and Family plans reach two hours of recording time, they won’t be able to create any new recordings. You’ll still have access to your previous recordings.
What happens if I downgrade my plan from Dropbox Professional, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Standard, Advanced, or Enterprise to Dropbox Basic, Plus, or Family?
If you move from Dropbox Professional, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Standard, Advanced, or Enterprise to Basic, Plus, or Family, you’ll still have access to previous recordings. If you have recorded more than two hours, you won’t be able to create any new recordings. If you have recorded less, you’ll be able to create new recordings until you hit two hours.
I received a notification that I need to give Dropbox Capture permission to record. What does this mean?
This notification means your computer or browser is currently blocking Dropbox Capture from recording.
Mac users will need to give their browser access to screen recording, camera, and microphone through their System Preferences.
If using Safari, you’ll need to set Screen Sharing permissions for the Dropbox website to Ask.
