How to edit recordings with Dropbox Capture

You can select specific parts of your videos to be removed or trim the video to a desired length or segment.
Notes:

  • Customers on Dropbox Basic, Plus, and Family can only edit videos that are five minutes or less.
  • Customers on Dropbox Professional, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise can edit videos that are 30 minutes or less.
  • Only customers on Dropbox Professional, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise can remove filler words and create GIFs. 
  • There is a 2GB file size limit for all recordings. 
     

To edit videos made with Dropbox Capture:

  1. Open the video through capture.dropbox.com.
  2. Click Edit video in the right sidebar. 
    • You can also open the Dropbox Capture desktop app from the taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac), hover over a video, and click the scissors icon to edit.
  3. Use the controls at the bottom of the window to select a portion of your video.
  4. Depending on what you’d like to do, click Keep selection or Delete selection.
  5. Click Save changes
    • You can click Cancel at any time to change your video back to its original state.

Once saved, edited videos will replace the original file.

Captures can be renamed by clicking the pencil icon to the right of the file name.
 

How to remove filler words 

When a video recording with audio is less than 30 minutes long, you can automatically trim the video to remove the “ums” and “uhs” from the audio.

To do so: 

  1. Sign in to capture.dropbox.com
  2. Click the recording you’d like to remove filler words from.
  3. Click Edit. 
  4. Click Remove filler words.
    • Note: This is only enabled once the video has been transcribed, and if there is at least 1 filler word found. Once completed, you’ll see yellow lines on the editing preview where a filler word is removed.
  5. Click Save changes.

The process to remove filler words may take several minutes, depending on the length of the video.

How to create a GIF

You can create GIF files with Dropbox Capture.

Note: The recording must be 30 seconds or less. The process to create a GIF may take several minutes, depending on the length of the recording. 
 

On capture.dropbox.com

To create a GIF on capture.dropbox.com:

  1. Sign in to capture.dropbox.com
  2. Click the recording you wish to convert to GIF.
  3. Click the down arrow next to Share.
  4. Click Download video as GIF. 
  5. Preview the GIF and click Download.

Your GIF will be downloaded to your computer. The original recording in Dropbox Capture won’t be affected.


In the Dropbox Capture app

You can create a GIF with the Dropbox Capture app on macOS. To do this:

  1. Open the Dropbox Capture desktop app.
  2. Click Show more. 
  3. Click GIF. 
  4. Choose which part of the screen you’d like to capture.
    • Click once to record your entire screen.
    • Click and drag to record a desired area of your screen.
    • Press the spacebar to record a specific window.
  5. Click the stop icon (white square in a red circle).
  6. Your GIF will save automatically to Dropbox Capture.
     

The Dropbox Capture app for Windows isn’t able to create GIFs at this time.
