How to edit video and audio files in Dropbox

This article describes features available to all customers on dropbox.com.

You can edit the video and audio files you store in your Dropbox account, including trimming, cropping, flipping, rotating, and generating transcripts.

Video:

  • Your video must be smaller than 1GB.
  • Your video must be less than ten minutes long.
  • Your video must be more than one second long.
  • Your video’s resolution must be lower than 4K.
  • This feature is only available for MOV, MP4, M4V, MPG, MKV, MJPEG, and AV1.

Audio:

  • Your audio must be smaller than 1GB.
  • Your audio must be less than ten minutes long.
  • Your audio must be more than one second long.
  • This feature is only available for AAC, AIF, AIFF, FLAC, M4A, M4R, MP3, OGA, OGG, WAV, and WMA.

How to edit video and audio files

To edit video and audio files:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click All files in the left sidebar.
  3. Click the name of your video or audio file to open its preview. Learn how to preview files.
  4. Click Edit at the top of the preview or use the editing features in the toolbar.
  5. Make your edits:
    • For video files only:
      • Rotate: Click the rotate icon (square with an arrow) at the top of the player to rotate left or right.
      • Flip: Click the flip vertically icon (square split by a horizontal line) at the top of the player to flip the video vertically. Click the flip horizontally icon (square split by a vertical line) at the top of the player to flip the video horizontally.
      • Crop: Click and drag the frame around your video.
    • For video and audio files:
  6. When you’re done, click Save.
    • To save a new copy and keep the original version, click Save a copy. Then, add a name for your copy, choose the folder you’d like to save it in, and click Save copy to confirm.
    • To overwrite the original version, click Replace original. To confirm, click Replace original.
