How to edit video in Dropbox

You can trim, crop, flip, and rotate the videos you store in your Dropbox account, and save the new versions to share.

Notes

  • Your video must be smaller than 512 MB.
  • Your video must be less than five minutes long.
  • Your video must be more than one second long.
  • Your video’s resolution must be lower than 4K.
  • At this time, this feature is only available for MOV, MP4, M4V, MPG, MKV, MJPEG, and AV1.

How to edit video

Note: You can only edit video on dropbox.com.

To edit videos in Dropbox:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click All files in the left sidebar.
  3. Click the name of your video to view a preview. Learn more about how to preview files.
  4. Click Edit at the top of the preview or use the editing features in the toolbar.
  5. Make your edits:
    • Rotate: Click the rotate icon (square with an arrow) at the top of the player to rotate left or right.
    • Flip: Click the flip vertically icon (square split by a horizontal line) at the top of the player to flip the video vertically. Click the flip horizontally icon (square split by a vertical line) at the top of the player to flip the video horizontally.
    •  Crop: Click and drag the frame around your video.
    • Trim: Click and drag the beginning or end of the clip in the bar at the bottom of the player.
    •  Click Transcript to generate a transcript for videos with speech.
    • Click Dropbox AI to quickly summarize content and get answers about your files. Learn more about how to use Dropbox AI in a file preview
  6. When you’re done, click Save.
    • To save a new copy and keep the original version, click Save a copy. Then, add a name for your copy, choose the folder you’d like to save it in, and click Save copy to confirm.
    • To overwrite the original version, click Replace original. To confirm, click Replace original.
