How Zaps work
Zaps consist of two basic elements: triggers and actions.
Triggers are specific events that occur in an app. Zapier monitors for the trigger events you set up, and once they occur, it will execute the actions in your workflow. In DocSend, a trigger could be that a visitor opens a document link.
Actions begin after a trigger event occurs. In the DocSend example, an action that follows the “new visit” trigger may be “add a row to a Google Sheet”. In other words, whenever a DocSend visit occurs, Zapier will add a row of information to a specified Google Sheet.
Zaps can have one trigger and many actions. There are also two types of Zap actions:
- App actions add or update data in an app, like creating a new row of information in a spreadsheet.
- App searches look up information that can be used in later actions, like finding a date in a certain spreadsheet.
