PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) is an EU Governmental Directive that goes into effect on September 14, 2019. The directive aims to make online payments more secure by requiring that merchants like Dropbox support Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). SCA requires the use of two-step verification for online transactions.

How Dropbox complies with PSD2
Beginning September 14, 2019, Dropbox will be required to collect additional billing details for customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to satisfy the SCA requirement.
What changes will I see as a result of PSD2?
If you live in one of the 31 affected locales and you have an existing recurring subscription, you shouldn’t experience any disruption to your account. However, you might see additional authentication steps from your bank during the payment process if you take one of the following actions:
- Purchase a Dropbox plan after September 14, 2019
- Change your billing frequency
- Add new licenses to a team
- Upgrade your account
- Update your card on file
- Purchase an add-on
- Subscribe to a trial
