How to add contacts to your list of suggested contacts

There are several ways that names and emails get added to your list of suggested contacts.

Manually added contacts

  • You shared a file or folder with that contact, or they shared one with you.
  • You tagged a contact in a Paper doc, or they tagged you.
  • You invited someone to Dropbox, or they invited you.
Automatically added contacts
  • Someone was added to a group you belong to, or you were added to a group.
  • You became part of a Dropbox Business team, or an admin added new members to your team.

How to delete manually added contacts

To delete all of your contacts from Dropbox at once:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials).
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. Scroll to Preferences.
  6. Click Clear.

If you have connected your business and personal accounts, your contacts will be deleted from both lists.

Note: There are several types of contacts that won’t be deleted by this action:

How to import contacts in bulk from Gmail and Outlook

You can import your contacts from Gmail or Outlook. To import all of your contacts from one of these third-party apps:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click the grid icon in the top-left corner.
  3. Click App Center from the menu that appears.
  4. Click Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar and Contacts.
    • If you don't see what you're looking for, use the App Center search bar.
  5. Click Connect, and follow the prompts.

How to delete contacts that were imported from Gmail or Outlook

To disconnect the third-party application, thereby removing those contacts from your suggested contacts list:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials).
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Connected apps.
  5. Click the app you’d like to disconnect.
  6. Click Disconnect.

Note: When you remove your Outlook account from Dropbox, Dropbox can no longer access any of your Microsoft data. However, if you check in your Microsoft account, it may still show that Dropbox is connected to your account. This is a Microsoft API limitation, and Dropbox doesn’t have access once you remove Outlook from your account.

Can I delete individual contacts from my list of suggested contacts?

No. You can’t delete contacts individually from your suggested contacts list, with the following three exceptions:

  • If the contact that you would like to delete was imported from a third-party application, you can disconnect the third-party application, delete the contact from that third-party application, and then re-import your contacts to Dropbox
  • If you’re a Dropbox Business team member, you can contact an admin to remove a member from your team, and their contact information will be deleted
  • If you’re using the Dropbox API (available to Dropbox Business users)
