Tags are only available on dropbox.com.
You can add tags to files and folders to help you organize and quickly find everything in your, and your team’s Dropbox account. Tags are available to all Dropbox users and can be added to individual files, folders, or in bulk. Anyone who can view or edit a file/folder can see its tags. Only people with edit access can add or remove tags.
How to Add a tag
To add a tag to a file:
- Sign in to dropbox.com.
- Click the checkbox to the left of the file or folder you want to tag.
- You will see # Add a tag in the right-side panel.
- Type your tag and press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac).
Notes:
- Tags must be less than 32 characters and can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores.
- Up to 20 tags can be added to a single file.
- You can type a tag in the search bar at the top of the screen or click on the tag in the right-side panel to view all the files associated with that tag.
How to Remove a tag
To remove a tag from a file:
- Sign in to dropbox.com.
- Click the checkbox to the left of the file you’d like to remove a tag from.
- Tags for that file will appear under the file preview in the right sidebar.
- Click the X to the right of the tag you’d like to remove.
How to use tags with an automated folder
Using automation, you can apply tags to files within a specific folder by default.
Note: This feature is only available to users on Dropbox Professional, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise plans.
To create a folder with automated tags:
- Sign in to dropbox.com.
- Click Create in the upper-left.
- Name the folder and select Files added to a folder are tagged.
- Click Next.
- Enter the tags you would like automatically applied.
- Click Create.
