How to add video transcripts and captions in Dropbox Replay

The feature described in this article is only available for customers who have purchased the Dropbox Replay Add-On.

You can add transcripts to video and audio files in Dropbox Replay, and create closed captions for videos. Once generated, you can edit the transcript, select a section to skip to that timestamp, and copy or share the transcripts.

Notes:

  • You can only create and download transcripts for video and audio files.
  • Closed captions are only available on videos.
  • You can only transcribe videos or audio files that are up to 105 minutes long.
  • This feature is subject to our data retention policy. Transcripts and captions will be stored for 45 days after last access and then securely deleted.

How to add transcripts in Dropbox Replay

To add a video or audio transcript:

  1. Log in to replay.dropbox.com.
  2. Open the video or audio file you’d like to transcribe.
  3. Click the Transcript tab at the top of the Comments sidebar.
    • Note: If the right sidebar isn’t open, click the show icon (arrow pointing left with a vertical line) in the upper right of the screen.

Your transcript may take a few minutes to generate, depending on the length of the video or audio file. When ready, you’ll see it in the Transcript tab in the right sidebar.
 

How to edit transcripts in Dropbox Replay 

To use the edit tool to modify a video or audio transcript:

  1. Log in to replay.dropbox.com.
  2. Open the video or audio file with the transcript you’d like to edit.
  3. Hover over the section you’d like to edit.
  4. Click edit  (pencil icon), then edit the text in the box.
  5. Click the checkmark to save.

How to copy your entire transcripts in Dropbox Replay

To copy your entire video or audio transcript:

  1. Log in to replay.dropbox.com.
  2. Open the video or audio file with a transcript.
  3. In the Transcript sidebar, click “” (ellipsis), then Copy entire transcript

How to download your transcripts in Dropbox Replay

To download your video or audio transcript:

  1. Log in to replay.dropbox.com.
  2. Open the video or audio file you added a transcript to.
  3. In the Transcript sidebar, click “” (ellipsis) in the upper right. 
  4. Download transcript as: 
  • srt file
  • vvt file
  • Plain text

Note: Unless your computer’s default settings have been changed, your file or folder will download to your computer’s Downloads folder.

How to turn closed captions on or off in Dropbox Replay

To turn closed captions on or off:

  1. Log in to replay.dropbox.com.
  2. Open the video file you’d like to view.
  3. Click CC in the controls at the bottom of the video window
    • Select Video transcript to turn on closed captions.
    • Select None to turn off closed captions.
