How to set storage limits for team folders

The information in this article applies to certain types of admins on Dropbox Standard, Advanced, Business Plus, and Enterprise.

Storage limits help admins monitor storage space for team folders. Admins can set limits for top-level team folders and receive notifications when folders approach or exceed those limits.

Storage limit notifications are alerts only. Team members can still upload and sync files even if a folder exceeds its assigned limit.

How to set storage limits for team folders on dropbox.com

You can set a storage limit for any top-level team folder from the admin console.

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Products, click the dropdown next to Dropbox.
  4. Click Content.
  5. Hover over the folder you want to manage and click (more options).
  6. Select Manage storage limit.
  7. Toggle Set a storage limit to On.
  8. Enter the storage limit in GB.
  9. Click Save.

How storage limit notifications work

Dropbox sends notifications automatically when a team folder reaches:

  • 80% of its assigned limit
  • 100% of its assigned limit

Notifications may appear:

  • By email
  • In Dropbox notifications

Notifications can be sent to:

  • Team admins
  • Folder editors
  • Both admins and folder editors

How to manage storage limit notifications

To set notifications for storage limits:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Products, click the dropdown next to Dropbox.
  4. Click Content.
  5. Hover over the folder you want to manage and click ☑ (more options).
  6. Select Manage storage limit.
  7. Toggle Notifications to On.
  8. Choose who should receive notifications:
    • Team admins and folder editors
    • Team admins
    • Folder editors
  9. Click Save.

How to change or remove a storage limit

Admins can update or remove storage limits for team folders at any time.

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Products, click the dropdown next to Dropbox.
  4. Click Content.
  5. Hover over the folder you want to manage and click ☑ (more options).
  6. Select Manage storage limit.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • To change the limit, enter a new storage limit.
    • To remove a limit, toggle Set a storage limit to Off.
  8. Click Save.
