This article explains what a sync conflict with an encrypted file or folder is, how it happened, and what you can do to resolve it.

How can I identify a sync conflict with an encrypted file or folder?

If your encrypted files or folders are stuck in sync status, they can be identified by a persistent “sync progress” (sync icon). In the Dropbox desktop app, you’ll see "Syncing" in the footer, along with a "View issues" button. Clicking this button will display the encrypted files or folders and a message indicating that they’ve been modified locally and remotely.

How did a sync conflict of my encrypted file or folder happen?

A sync conflict of an encrypted file or folder typically occurs when you or someone else modifies an encrypted file or folder while you’re logged out of your Dropbox account.

How can I resolve a sync conflict of an encrypted file or folder?

To resolve a sync conflict, move the local version of the file or folder to a secure location outside of your Dropbox folder. This allows Dropbox to sync the remote version and create a new version of your file or folder in its original location on your device. You can then compare both versions of your file or folder and manually reapply your changes to the new version if necessary.

Note: If moving the file or folder doesn't work due to missing permissions, log out of your Dropbox account, move the encrypted file or folder to a secure location outside of the Dropbox folder, and then log back into your Dropbox account.
