How to use Dropbox Studio

Dropbox Studio is an alpha experience available to a limited audience and is subject to additional terms.

You can use Dropbox Studio to create, edit, and publish videos directly from dropbox.com.

How to start a project 

You can create a new recording with Dropbox Capture or upload your own video, audio, or image files from your computer or your Dropbox account. 


To create a new project:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Create project at the top or New Project under the Projects section. 
  4. Click +Add in the Media section on the left to to start adding video, audio, and image files:
    • Choose Dropbox to select a file from your Dropbox account.
    • Choose Computer to upload a file from your computer.
    • Choose Screen + camera recording, Screen recording, or Camera recording to create a new recording with Dropbox Capture.
  5. Click + (plus icon) on a media file to add it to the editing timeline.

How to edit a project

Once media is added to your project, you can start editing your project.

You can edit video with Dropbox Studio, including trimming and adjusting resolution. To split a video into multiple video clips, click location on the timeline and click Split button.


To trim video:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the project you’d like to edit.
  4. Click the video clip you’d like to trim on the timeline.
  5. Click, hold, and drag the blue handlebars at the edges of the clip to trim the clip as you’d like.

Note: If you trim too much from a clip, you’ll need to delete it from your timeline, re-add it from the Media section, then trim it again.

To change aspect ratio or resolution:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the project you’d like to edit.
  4. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
  5. Change your video’s settings:
    • Click the Aspect ratio dropdown to choose from standard aspect ratios for different platforms.
    • Click the Resolution dropdown to change the video resolution.

You can edit audio with Dropbox Studio, including adjusting playback speed and volume, creating transcripts, and removing filler words.


To adjust playback speed and volume:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the project you’d like to adjust.
  4. To change your audio settings:
    • Click 1x and choose a playback speed.
    • Click the speaker icon to mute or adjust volume level. 


To create a transcript:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the project you’d like to transcribe. 
  4. Click Transcript. 

You can send feedback on this transcription by clicking the thumbs up or thumbs down icons, then clicking Send


To remove filler words:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the project you’d like you’d like to remove filler words for.
  4. Click Transcript. 
  5. Click Transcript assistant. 
  6. Click Remove all filler words.

Note: Your video file must be less than 30 minutes long to remove the “ums” and “uhs” filler words. This option will only be enabled if there is at least one filler word found in the audio file.

How to collaborate on your project

You can share your project with anyone via link to let everyone review and comment to provide frame by frame feedback. 


To share and collaborate on your project:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Locate the project you’d like to share. 
  4. Click the comment icon in the top right. 
  5. Click Copy Link.

The link is copied to your clipboard. You can then paste it into an email, message, or wherever people can access it.

How to export or publish a video

You can export Dropbox Studio projects to your social media profile directly from dropbox.com. Once exported, the files can be found in the Recent videos section.


To export the file: 

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the project you’d like to export.
  4. Click Export.
  5. Change file name, if you’d like.
  6. Click the Resolution dropdown to change the resolution, if you’d like.
  7. Click Change folder to select a location on your Dropbox account, if you’d like.
  8. Click Export. 


This may take a few minutes depending on the size of your file and length of your video. 

To publish directly to social media: 

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Video projects in the left sidebar.
  3. Open the file you’d like to publish to your social media account.
  4. Click Publish
