Upload coursework and lecture notes to Canvas from Dropbox

Canvas is a service that allows students and professors to securely and easily share course content in one centralized place. Once a Canvas administrator has enabled the Canvas and Dropbox integration, students and professors can upload coursework and lecture notes to Canvas from Dropbox.

Connect Canvas to your Dropbox account

If you are a student or professor, follow the instructions below to connect Canvas to your Dropbox account.

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click App Center.
  3. Click Canvas.
    • If you don’t see Canvas, use the search bar.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Enter your institution’s domain.
    • If you don’t know your institution’s domain, contact your Canvas administrator.
  6. Click Connect.

Note: If you’re a Dropbox Business admin, learn how you can manage app integrations like Canvas for your team.

If you don’t see App Center, follow these instructions to connect to Canvas instead:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the Connected apps tab.
  5. Next to Canvas, click Connect to Canvas and follow the prompts.

Upload Dropbox files to Canvas

To upload coursework or lecture notes to Canvas from dropbox.com:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click All files.
  3. Hover over the name of the file you’d like to upload, and click the arrow next to Share.
  4. Click Canvas.
  5. Select the course, folder, and assignment you’d like to upload the file to.
  6. Click Next.

Disconnect Canvas from your Dropbox account 

To disconnect Canvas from your Dropbox account:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the Connected apps tab.
  5. Click Canvas.
  6. Click Disconnect.

Enable the Canvas and Dropbox integration for your institution

If you are the Canvas admin for your institution, you can enable the Canvas and Dropbox integration. To enable the integration, you need to first install the Dropbox app in Canvas from either the Edu App Marketplace or the deployment or course settings in Canvas. Once you’ve installed the Dropbox app, you can enable the integration.

To enable the Canvas and Dropbox integration:

  1. Sign in to Canvas.
  2. Click Admin in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Developer Keys.
  4. Click the Inherited tab.
  5. Toggle Dropbox to On.
